Mission:
To provide a quality, affordable post-secondary education responsive to the needs of the community and accessible to all who can benefit from it. We emphasize academic excellence and student success through a student-centered and innovative life-long learning environment for our diverse population.
Location:
Edison, New Jersey-the heart of the state-30 miles from New York City and 50 miles from Philadelphia. The College also has centers in nearby New Brunswick and Perth Amboy. Additional courses are offered at sites throughout the county.
History:
Founded in 1966 by the New Jersey Department of Higher Education.
Enrollment:
Approximately 11,800 students. The campus population is diverse, with students from 60 different countries in attendance.
Academics:
Degrees conferred include the Associate in Arts, Associate in Fine Arts, Associate in Science and the Associate in Applied Science. The College offers more than 550 courses in 80 different degree and certificate programs with six specially designed transfer programs.
Faculty:
206 full-time and 346 part-time faculty. The student-to-faculty ratio is 21 to one.
Campus:
200 acres with 25 buildings including a state-of-the-art Technical Services Center, fully-equipped Recreation Center and 440-seat Performing Art Center. College centers are in New Brunswick and Perth Amboy.
Special Programs:
Central/Regional Connections-Project Connections for Learning Disabled Students,Open College Program for undecided and underprepared students, Cooperative Education with local employers, English as a Second Language instruction, Student Peer Mentor Project, Minority Access to the Professions Scholars(MAPS) program, ROTC in cooperation with Rutgers University and numerous others.
Activities:
More than 50 chartered clubs and organizations, a College Center Program Board, College Assembly, national honor societies, special minority activities, college newspaper, radio station and literary magazine. The College offers intercollegiate and intramural competition through membership in Region XIX of The National Junior College Athletic Association and the Garden State Athletic Conference.
Transfer:
60 percent of the College's graduates pursue additional higher education. Almost 100 percent of students transfer successfully. Articulation agreements with many different colleges and joint admissions programs with NJIT and dual degree programs with Rutgers University are among the most popular options.
Admission:
An open door policy assures admission to the College. Prerequisites are required for certain courses. Applications are reviewed on an on-going basis. Admission to programs that specify additional selective criteria may require a review of prior educational performance, standardized test scores and the completion of an appropriate developmental program. It should be noted that admission may necessarily be restricted by facility and/or staff availability. Upon meeting the enrollment needs of county residents, admission will be extended to residents outside Middlesex County.
Community Outreach:
The Division of Corporate and Community Education offers customized training for business and industry; seminars and workshops for individual skill and personal development; youth activities including summer sports and learning enhancement camps; and funded training programs in high-skill, high-tech occupations for unemployed workers. The Office of School Relations, working with local school districts, offers a variety of professional development opportunities for teachers in grades K-12.
