Telephony

Cellular Phone Breakup

The Department of Telecommunications often receives requests for service concerning incoming telephone calls "breaking-up" during the course of a conversation. In most instances, when the technician has physically checked the telephone and the telephone line, they have been found to be in proper operating order.

We believe that many of the service calls for conversations that are "breaking-up" are being caused by the outside caller using a Cellular Phone, a Wireless Phone, or a headset.

If you receive an off campus call and your conversation is "breaking-up", ask the caller if they are on a Cellular or a Wireless Phone. If they are let them know you can not hear them and have them call you back.

If the problem persists after they call back, or they are not calling from either a Cellular or Wireless phone, please do call the telephone repair number, X3152, for service.
