Creating  Desktop Scraps in Windows 95

Tired of typing the same bits of text in both Word and Excel? Ever wish you could copy fragments of Word text into an Excel worksheet or a PowerPoint presentation file?

Easy!  Use document scraps.  Document scraps are pieces of text that remain on the Windows 95 desktop - ready to be reused in your next file.  They will remain on your desktop until you delete them.

Follow the steps below to create a Word document scrap then add it to other programs.

 1.                  Select the Word text.

 2.                  Restore Word to a mid-size view by clicking on the Word program Restore button as below.  The Windows 95 desktop should be displayed on your screen.  (If you can not see the Windows 95 desktop, left click and hold on the blue title bar and move the window so that you can see a portion of the desktop)

 3.                  Point to the highlighted Word section.  Drag it out of the Word program window, completely away from the Word application onto the desktop.  A document scrap is displayed and given its own icon as in the sample below.

 4.                  Open the destination program such as the desired Excel worksheet or the PowerPoint program to the mid size view as above in Step 2.

 5.         Drag the document scrap to the required location.  The text will be copied to the program.

To delete the document scrap from the desktop, click on it and press Delete on your keyboard.  You will be prompted to send it to the Recycle Bin as below.
