Floppy Disk Space

Are you using floppy disks to hold data?  Do you get confused as to how much data a floppy disk can actually hold?

A floppy disk holds 1.44 MB (megabytes) of data.  This is equivalent to 1,440 KB (kilobytes).

To find out how many bytes of data you have on a floppy, you can use the “My Computer” icon.

After you start your PC you should find a “My Computer” icon on the desktop.  It is often in the upper left-hand corner.  When you double click on “My Computer”, a box opens showing you the drives on your PC.  Insert your floppy in the correct drive (usually A:).  Right click on the drive and you will see a shortcut menu.  Left click on Properties at the bottom of the menu and a box will display information (space available vs. space occupied by files) about the disk.
