Word 97

Aligning Decimals

The tip is for Word 97 and explains how to set up numbered lists so that the decimal is correctly aligned. What this means, is that when you get to the number 10 or 100 in a list, the decimals will be lined up and the numbers will move to the right. This makes for a neater numbered list.

Here are the steps:

  1. Left click on Format from the Main Menu
  2. Left click on "Bullets and Numbering" from the drop down menu
  3. The "Bullets and Number" dialog box will appear
  4. Left click on the "Numbered" tab
  5. Left click on the format or style of numbering you want (you’ll know it’s selected because there will be a blue border around the option you chose)
  6. Left click on "Customize" on the bottom right hand corner
  7. The "Customize Numbered List" dialog box will appear
  8. Left click on the drop-down arrow next to "Number Position" and choose ‘Right"
  9. Left click on OK
  10. Now when you create your bullets list the decimals will line up (as in this example)
