Word 97

Insert and Overtype Mode

Word 97 includes an automatic Insert mode that you might have already used.  Any new text you type in your document is inserted just before the blinking vertical cursor.  The new text pushes any existing text to the right and down as you type.  This is automatic Insert mode.

The other feature is Overtype mode.  All the text you type overwrites the existing text on-screen, replacing it as you go.

 To switch to Overtype mode

·        Press the Insert key on your keyboard.  Note: (you can use either the key labeled "Insert" or the Ins key on the numeric keypad (with Num Lock off).

·        Type the new replacement text.

To turn Overtype off, press the Insert or “Ins” key again.
