Highlighting Text

Why would you want to select text? Just to name a few reasons; to change the font type, size or color, to underline, bold or italicize your text, to remove text, or to copy and paste.

There are several different ways to make text selections in Microsoft Word using either the keyboard or the mouse.

  • If you need to select just a word, move the mouse to the front of the word, hold down the left mouse button and drag over the word or words. You can drag over one letter, word, sentence, paragraph or the entire document.
  • If you want to select the entire document, you can choose Edit, Select All.
  • To select a line, move the mouse to the left of the line until the arrow points to the right. Left click on the mouse and the line will highlight.
  • To select a paragraph, do the same as #3, except double click.
  • To select all of your typing, triple click.

To remove highlighting from the selected text, right click on any blank area within the document. Remember if you click on something by mistake, use Edit, Undo to remove your changes.
