Spell Check

Have you been wondering what the red squiggly lines were that sometimes appear under words within Mircrosoft Word. They indicate that Word thinks you have spelled that word incorrectly. To activate spell check, choose Tools, Spelling and Grammar. You now have several choices related to the misspelling:

  • Ignore- this leaves the highlighted error unchanged
  • Ignore All- this leaves all instances of the highlighted word within the document unchanged
  • Add- this adds the highlighted word to your dictionary. You might choose to add your name and other commonly used words within your department to your dictionary.
  • Change-this allows you to change the word. Choose the word among the suggestions that is correct or backspace through the misspelled word and correct it. If you choose a spelling that is not correct, Word will let you know.
  • Change All- this will change all instances of the incorrect word within the document to the correct spelling you choose.
  • Auto Correct- if you activate this feature, Word will automatically correct common spelling errors such as "teh" to "the".
