What’s This? In Microsoft Word and Excel

Ever wonder what that uppercase “A” button is, the underlined one with a contrasting color and downward pointing arrow?

How about the lowercase “a” with the right and left pointing arrows on the Excel Toolbar?

With the What’s This? Help feature you can easily define those functions.

To use What’s This? follow the steps below.

 1.                  Open the required program and document.

 2.                  Press the Shift F1 keyboard combination.  A question mark displays to the right of the pointing arrow.  ?  The What’s This? feature is now activated.

 3.         Click on a part of the Word or Excel window such as a button or a scroll bar.  A text box will display.with a corresponding description of the element.

 4.                  Press Shift F1 again to disable the What’s This? feature and hide the description box.

Hint:  Another way to access this feature is to click on Help, What’s This? from the Excel or Word menu bar.  Select Help What’s This? or press Shift F1 to turn off the feature
