Enrollment of High School Students

POLICY:

PRE-SENIOR ENROLLMENT

WHEREAS, the College has maintained a Joint Enrollment policy which permits high school seniors to enroll in credit courses on a part-time basis; and

WHEREAS, a growing number of requests have been received from students below the high school senior level to enroll in credit courses; and

WHEREAS, the staff has recommended the acceptance of such pre-senior-level students in selected instances with extremely positive results; and

WHEREAS, the present policy is lacking in that it does not address the pre-senior-level group,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the following policy be implemented, effective January 1, 1981.

Students presently enrolled in school at the secondary level (7-12) may enroll in Middlesex County College credit and developmental courses on a part-time basis subject to the following regulations:

  1. High School Juniors and Seniors (11th and 12th Grades)
Juniors and seniors are automatically eligible to enroll on a space available basis in any MCC course for which they meet the prerequisites.  Students register in the normal fashion and submit, in addition to their registration forms, a joint enrollment application on which a parent or guardian indicates approval and a high school guidance counselor acknowledges awareness of the enrollment.
  2. Students Below the Junior (11th Grade) Level
A student in this category will be accepted into a part-time program of study only on the basis of superior academic ability and emotional maturity as attested to, in a written statement, by a guidance counselor at the student’s present school.  A personal interview with a Middlesex County College administrator will also be required, as will a signed statement of parental consent.  Students must complete a joint enrollment application and receive a notice of acceptance prior to submitting registration materials.  Registration will be accepted on a space available basis.
