Survey Finds Correlation Between Attire and Advancement
Students starting a new job or experiential education assignment might be interested to know that one of the keys to advancing within an organization is wearing appropriate attire, according to a survey by Office Team. In fact, an overwhelming 93 percent of managers polled said a person's style of dress at work influences his or her chances of earning a promotion; among them, 33 percent said on-the-job attire "significantly" affects an employee's advancement prospects.
Executives were asked, "To what extent does someone's style of dress at work influence his or her chances of being promoted?" In addition to the one-third who said attire was significant, 60 percent said it "somewhat" influences promotion opportunities, and just 7 percent said it has no influence at all.
