"What the Best College Teachers Do" is a three-day institute based on Ken Bain's book of the same name, featuring findings from a "15-year inquiry into the practices and insights of highly effective teachers." I went to this institute several years ago and found it thought-provoking and useful. John Ramirez and Janet Baker also attended. This year's institute begins at 11 on Wednesday, June 18 and ends on Friday, June 20, 2008.

Boot Camp for Profs®July 19-25, 2008Timberline Campus Colorado Mountain CollegeLeadville, COBoot Camp for Profs began in 1993 to confront the dilemma, “How can teaching skills truly be enhanced, given existing faculty commitments of time during the normal, busy school term?” The director describes the camp, set in the Rocky Mountains, as an opportunity for “growth and renewal” for teachers at any point in their career. Despite the description’s reference to university teaching, Ed Nuher, the director, told me that many community college teachers attend and that the camp is held at a community college. For much more information about the camp and what you do there, go to http://profcamp.tripod.com/bootcamp08.htm .
