Engaging and Motivating Students

Lecturing can be a powerful teaching method, especially when brief active learning opportunities are used throughout the lecture. Watch this one hour video to explore how to build background knowledge via effective lectures that activate prior knowledge, zoom in on the most important concepts, offer opportunities for reflection and processing of information, use multi-media effectively, and incorporate retrieval practice opportunities during your lectures. Incorporating brief, yet powerful active learning opportunities into your lectures will increase student engagement and learning.

Dynamic Lecturing

Engaging and Motivating Students

The first day of class sets the tone for the class.  It’s important to get students engaged with you, other students in the class and the course content.  Spending some time on the first day creating a community of learners can increase engagement and learning.
