Disability Services

The College provides specialized counseling and auxiliary services to support a student's academic program at the College.  Services and accommodations are provided in keeping with the regulations and spirit of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act.  A variety of services may be provided including adapted testing services, note taker support, sign language interpreters, adaptive technology, liaison with faculty regarding classroom accommodations, books on tape, and other accommodations based on a student's needs and supported by documentation.
At the college level it is the student's responsibility to self-identify and request services. Students requesting academic adjustments are required to submit appropriate and recent documentation and complete a Support Service Application in a timely manner to the Office of Disability Services, located in ED 100 at ext. 2546 (please refer to the MCC Procedures for Providing Services to students with disabilities for further details).

CAMPUS ACCESSIBILITY:  The campus is fully accessible and equipped with accessible handicapped parking and building elevators in the main classroom facilities.  Prospective students are encouraged to visit the campus to ensure that the facility is compatible with their needs and to discuss any concerns.

CLASSROOM ACCOMMODATIONS:  Faculty are alerted to student's special needs through a "Classroom Accommodation Form" that is developed with each student every semester.  Accommodations are granted based upon supporting documentation.

ADAPTIVE COMPUTER LAB:  The College has an extensive Adaptive Computer Lab equipped with the state of the art hardware and software to assist students with disabilities. The lab is located in JLC 221 and is staffed by a part-time lab coordinator.

ADAPTIVE TESTING CENTER:  The College maintains an Adaptive Testing Service to proctor exams for students with disabilities requiring test accommodations.  Approval to use the services is granted by the Office of Special Services staff once appropriate documentation is received.

732. 906.2546  or  TTY 732. 906.2547  early in the application process  so that the College may respond to a student needs in a timely and effective way.
