About Us
Established in 1995 by the Political Science faculty, the Corps rests on the belief that structured programs are needed to develop good citizens, just as similiar programs are needed to develop competent teachers, nurses, engineers, and other workers. It aims to develop the civic confidence and competence of students by creating opportunities for them to work
on community problems during their undergraduate years.
The Community Scholars Corps is one of many programs offered by Democracy House, MCC's Center for Civic Engagement, located within the Department of History and Social Behavior. Democracy House and its various programs receive support from the Corella and Bertram Bonner Foundation, the Corporation for National Services' Learn and Serve America Program, the Middlesex Interfaith Partners with the Homeless, and Middlesex County College.
