Profile of Francine A. Krimsky, Assistant
Professor, Freelance Designer
I have been an educator for 20
years. Before committing to the
full-time position of academic life, I worked as a freelance package
designer. My accounts include: Brut Industries, Shop Rite, Pathmark,
Fayva Shoe Stores, Kids R Us, Times Square Stores, JC Penney, K-Mart and Jaclyn
Smith line of clothing exclusively for K-Mart, Hot Soxx, Spalding.
Working in the college realm, I derive a
great deal of satisfaction working with the students. We have a great rapport and have a
“connection.” When I
can help encourage students lacking the drive to continue in the field, I feel
greatly rewarded. My classroom
teachings including courses such as Freehand Drawing, to 3-dimensional design,
to Production and Advertising Design and Portfolio. These classes teach the basics of the
hands-on learning approach to preparing advertising art for printing. Realistic Advertising campaigns, which I
recently revamped to be as realistic as possible, are part of my college load,
as well as helping students prepare their portfolio pieces and resumes plus
letters of recommendation for colleges or places of employment.
I constantly bring in realistic contests and
projects to my students such as: Packaging for Brut Industries, Forensic
Investigors, the new logo for our Charitable Commitment Campaign for the
College Foundation, and constantly bring in contests from local businesses. I
have speakers active in the field as guests in my classes and relate to them
one-on-one.
Within the educational realm, I have held
the position of Department Chair for Divisional Awards, Chaired the Business
Division Council, Curator for the Student Senior Exhibition, served on the
Educational Task Force, and Chaired the Assessment Committee for my department.
I have written a manual for Freehand
Drawing, as a guide for other teachers as well as students and myself. I have prepared a website on the basics
of the Photoshop program, as well as 2 CD’s describing the hands on
process and a Power Point presentation involving students, their work and
preparing projects on our art programs.
I was chosen to work with my students
promoting safe sex throughout the campus working with the Health and Safety
Department, for which a college grant was donated.
I have been the Advisor for the Art and
Photography Club, the Asian Club, and founded the Multi-Cultural Club (Mixed
Spices). I am an advisor to approximately 25 students per semester, and take
great job in helping them in the academic and personal life.
I am constantly trying to improve and stay
abreast of the market. I keep in
contact with graduating students and have recently completed three
post-graduate online courses.
I will be featured in a workshop February
2005 promoting state-of-the art means of relaying new and innovative ideas to
other educators.
