COURSE
DESCRIPTION/OBJECTIVES

A survey of Computer and Information Science. Defines computers and computer programs and their application in business, industry, institutions, and government. Topics include the history of computers, hardware devices, software programs, information technology ideas and terminology, privacy of information, ethical issues, and the influence of computers on people and society. Hands-on experience includes: data entry through electronic spreadsheets, word processing, creation and use of a database to support transaction processing. Recommended for anyone wishing to attain basic computer literacy. |

Makeup exams may be given at the discretion of the instructor. Makeup exams will not be allowed if requested after the administration of the exam. IF a makeup exam is permitted, it must be taken within one week after returning to school. Only one make up will be allowed per semester. No make up is possible for unannounced quizzes.
Assignments must be submitted on the date due – late submissions of work may result in the loss of 5 points for each day. No assignment will be accepted after the class following the assignment due date.
All assignments must be typed. Further information regarding the format, requirements, etc. will be handed out and discussed in class.
POLICY ON CHEATING
Please refer to your MCC student handbook on College Rules and Polices. Students found cheating on a test, paper or homework will receive a zero for that test or assignment. If you have a problem understanding or completing an assignment, please come talk to me about it.
Please refer to your MCC student handbook on College Rules and Polices. All cellular phones are to be turned off during class. No cell phones may be on in your view during a test or exam. Respect your fellow students and me, do not talk during lecture or during another students presentations. . You may of course participate in class discussion and lectures responses.
