Faculty Attendance

As indicated in the "Adjunct Faculty Handbook" which is distributed to all adjunct faculty, "If for any reason a faculty member must be absent from class, the Department Chairperson must be notified in advance of the class meeting.  Faculty may submit qualified substitutes, to be approved in advance by the Department Chairperson, to cover a class during the faculty member's absence.  If a faculty member is absent and no substitute is provided, all missed class time must be made up subject to the conditions listed below.  Failure to meet all prescribed class time will result in prorated salary reduction.

Conditions for making up classes:

a)     the full class time must be made up at no penalty or special
        inconvenience to the students
b)     the faculty member must be present to conduct the session(s)
c)     the class material must be consistent with the established course
        objectives
d)     the procedures established must be submitted to the Department
Chairperson for approval prior to implementation

Classes must be held for the full length of time scheduled.  Classes scheduled for more than two hours should be given a ten minute break close to the middle of class.

Student Attendance

There is no formal attendance policy for students at Middlesex County College.  Students are graded solely on the basis of quality and quantity of work, as stated in the course outline which is distributed to students at the first class meeting.  Students are expected to attend all classes, labs, and clinical sessions for which they are enrolled.

Students whose absence is due to personal illness or extenuating personal matters should contact the instructor and arrange to make up the missed work.  It is up to the individual instructor to excuse absences, provided the student will be able to fulfill the course requirements.

NOTE:    More information about how faculty members might address
the issue of student attendance will be provided in the
Mathematics Department section of the manual.
