                                                  TESTS

Testing is done during class meetings.  Most faculty members count the test mean grade as a significant part of the final grade.(50%-70%)  Instructors make up their own tests with the exception of the Mat-010, Basic Mathematics course. (If you are teaching this course there will be a section dedicated to this course in the manual). If you would like to get an idea of what a test looks like for a particular course, you can ask a full-time faculty member who teaches the course for guidance.  Most instructors give three or four tests during the semester.

                                          MAKE-UP TESTS

There are always students who miss an exam.  You may determine your own policy for make-up tests. You should include your policy on the course outline that you hand out to your students on the first day of class.  Instructors in the department deal with make-up tests in a variety of ways.

Some instructors never give make-up tests. One option for those instructors might be to rearrange their grading percentages (perhaps count the final exam more heavily).  Another option is to extract the part of the final exam that covers the material from the missed test to determine an assessment for that part of the course.

Most instructors will allow a student to take a make-up if the student has proof of illness or a personal emergency.  In that case, the test can be taken at a time that the instructor and student agree upon. (Students can take the test in the common area in Center II with the instructor present).  However, Center II can be noisy and crowded and/or the instructor might not want to proctor a long exam.  In that case, students can take a make-up exam in the Testing Center . (The procedure for having a student take a test in the Testing Center is found under Testing later on in the manual).
