There are two tutoring centers that our
mathematics students can use.
The JLC
Tutoring Center
The
Tutoring
Center
in the
Johnson
Learning
Center, Room 240, (732-906-2631)serves students in all mathematics courses.
There are mathematics faculty members who volunteer to tutor in
this center and there are peer tutors as well.
There are tables for individual or group work and a few computers
to access helpful software for learning and drilling mathematic skills.
Tutors wait at the tutoring tables for students to sit down and ask for
help. Clearly marked signs
help your students find the tutor for the subject they need. The schedule
of available tutors is printed each semester and can be picked up in the
tutoring center.
At times students are not pleased with the tutoring they have received
for some reason. They don’t
want to return for another try. They
should be told to try a different tutor, perhaps at a different time and
hopefully they will have more success.
The
Developmental Mathematic Lab/Tutoring Center
The second place to get tutoring is the Developmental
Lab/Tutoring Center located in Main Hall 142.
This center is specifically for students in the developmental
classes Mat-010, Mat-013, and Mat-014). Students in credit courses who
need help in developmental topics may get help here as well.
NOTE: Many of
the developmental mathematics students prefer this lab to the one in JLC.
They are often embarrassed that they need remedial help and they
feel comfortable in an environment that caters to developmental students
only. This lab has become
more popular for the developmental student population that the one in
JLC.
The schedule for the lab is posted
outside the lab each semester and can also be found on the lab website.
This can be accessed by going to www.middlesexcc.edu,
clicking on Academics,Departments, Mathematics and then Developmental
Math or directly by going to:

The Developmental Mathematics
Lab/Tutoring Center has mathematics staff who provide tutoring
throughout the day and on some evenings.
There are twenty computers so students can make use of software
that will help them learn and drill the mathematics skills learned in
class. Textbooks that
students use come packaged with software.
Computers in MH 142 have all necessary plug-ins so that
students and faculty can easily access these software programs. The
staff in MH 142 can help your students on the computers, if necessary.
More information about this lab can be found in the Developmental
Mathematics Section of the manual.
