Both federal and state regulations require that a student receiving financial aid for college must maintain satisfactory academic progress. This means that a student must:
Complete a program within a reasonable amount of time.
For most students, three years(six full-time semesters) to complete a degree program at MCC and one and one-half years (three full-time semesters) to complete a certificate program is reasonable.
Students who are required to enroll in 12 or more remedial/developmental or English as a Second Language (ESL) credits, or who participate in the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) program, will be allowed aditional semesters of enrollment.
Complete a minimum number of college-level credits per year.
Students enrolled in college credits only, must meet the following Grade Point Average (GPA) Standards:
| Credits Attempted |
Cumulative Grade Point Average |
| 1-11 |
2.0 |
| 12-23 |
1.6 |
| 24-39 |
1.8 |
| 40+ |
2.0 |
Students enrolled in college level and/or developmental and/or English as a Second Language courses must maintain a term Grade Point Average(TGPA) of 2.0.
A student who is dismissed from school or academically suspended will not be eligible for any financial aid for the term of dismissal or suspension.
If a student's aid is terminated because of failure to make academic progress, they may appeal their termination to the Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress Committee. Complete and submit the Appeal Form to the Financial Aid Office.
Remedial Credit Limit
Federal aid will not fund more than 30 credits of developmental courses. State aid will not fund more than four semesters of attendance at the community college level.
