How do I apply for Financial Aid?

Applying for Financial Aid is a three step process.

We recommend you apply for financial aid online, because it speeds up the process.  If you apply by using the paper application processing can take up to 6-8 weeks before your application is processed by the Department of Education and sent to Middlesex County College. If you apply online we generally with receive you application within 1-2 weeks.

  1.  The first step is to apply for a Pin number for yourself (and your parent).  To do this visit pin.ed.gov.  The Pin number is used to sign the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Your parent will be required to fill out a section of the financial aid application unless you can answer Yes to one of the following questions.
  • Were you born before January 1, 1983?
  • Are you married?
  • Do you have any children that you support more than 50%?
  • Do you have any dependents other than children that you support more than 50%?
  • Are both of your parents deceased, or are you an orphan or ward of the court?
  •  Are you currently serving on active duty in the US Armed Forces for purposes other than training?
  • Are you a veteran of the US Armed Forces?

If you were able to answer YES to one of these questions, you do not need to put your parent’s information on the FAFSA (Financial aid application).

  1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  The FAFSA will determine all types of financial aid that you are eligible for.  This includes federal grants (such as Pell & ACG), New Jersey state grants (such as TAG -Tuition Aid grant), and student loans. The Federal School code for Middlesex County College is 002615.

  1. The final step in applying for financial aid is to follow up with the Middlesex County College Financial Aid office.  We require every student that attends MCC to fill out an Authorization form. In addition, the federal government randomly selects 30% of our students for a process called verification.  This requires our office to collect a copy of your (and your parent’s) prior year federal tax returns and complete a form called a verification worksheet.  Other documents such as proof of citizenship, your social security card, etc. might be requested by our office.  We cannot process your financial aid until all required documents have been submitted.
