How do I apply for a loan?

Please be advised that several lenders have recently stopped offering Federal Stafford loans at Middlesex County College.  Some of these banks include Citibank and Chase.  Please check with your lender to make sure that they are currently participating in the Federal Stafford Loan Program. If you previously had a loan with Citibank or Chase you will need to follow the steps below to apply for a loan with a new bank.

The Middlesex County College Financial Aid Office recommends that you seek out all sources of grant funds (funds you do not have to pay back) before you apply for a loan.  We also recommend that borrowers always consider applying for federal loans before seeking alternative or private loans.  Middlesex County College participates in the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP).  This is a government loan program that allows students to borrow student loans from a bank through a federal program.  This loan is not based on the student's credit history.

The link below will take you through the first two steps of this three part process.  You will complete the Entrance Interview (explains the rights and responsibilities for borrowing a loan)  and the Master Promissory Note (Loan application). You will also be asked to select which bank you want to borrow a loan with.  Our office has selected a few lenders that we have worked with in the past.  We added them to our list based on their history of providing exemplary service and benefits to students.  These lenders also agreed to abide by the New Jersey Loan Code of Conduct for institutes of higher learning.

Once you have complete these forms online, you will need to let our office know how much you would like to borrow during the upcoming year at Middlesex County College.  Complete the Loan Request form and submit it to our office.  Complete this form and mail or fax it to the financial aid office.  (732-906-4686)

The loan application process only requires you to complete the Loan Entrance Interview and Loan Application one time, with one bank.  Every award year you will need to submit in writing (via the Loan Request form) how much money you would like to borrow and for which semesters.
