Announcement ……..New Scholarships and MCC Program Contributions!
Middlesex County College Foundation is pleased to announce new gifts for scholarships for FY10.
Johnson & Johnson Renews Support for Scholarship and Provides Funds For New MCC Summer Bridge Program for New Brunswick High School Students
Middlesex County College Foundation is pleased to announce that Johnson & Johnson recently provided a $200,000 contribution for FY 2009-2010 academic year. This gift has been designated to support the Johnson & Johnson Scholarships for Health Technologies in the amount of $150,000, and $50,000 to support the Middlesex County College Summer Bridge Program.
Johnson & Johnson support of the MCC Summer Bridge Program will provide an opportunity for 20 New Brunswick High School graduates to enroll in remedial courses in English, Reading, and Mathematics during the summer 2009. The program, developed as a pilot program in 2007, will benefit New Brunswick High School graduates who seek to enter Middlesex County College in the Fall Semester 2009. These students are in need of remedial education courses in order to be successful in post secondary studies. By completing these courses prior to the Fall Semester, students will gain confidence in their abilities to succeed in college and will avoid the frustration of having to take remediation courses when they are motivated to begin their post-secondary academic program. Also, because the loss of summer employment is not an option for these students, stipends provided through this grant will allow them access and the opportunity to focus on these courses during the summer months.
Also, past support from J&J for Health Technologies Scholarships has resulted in the consistent growth of highly educated healthcare professionals joining the regional workforce. Approximately one-half of the $150,000 support received this year will be awarded as scholarships to qualified students during the fall semester of next academic year. The remaining funds will be awarded for the spring semester to the scholarship recipients who remain in good academic standing and continue to achieve and meet academic qualifications.
Middlesex County College and the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies have partnered to bring accessible, affordable, quality education to the Middlesex region since the College was founded in 1966. General Robert Wood Johnson served on the advisory board that recommended the establishment of the College. Paige D. L’Hommedieu, past chairman of J&J International Operations, was Chairman of the College Board from its inception until 1972. Recently retired J&J Company Group Chairman, Gerald M. Ostrov, is the Immediate Past Chairman of the College Board of Trustees. The Director of Shared Services Benefits at J&J, Eileen K. Palumbo, is an MCC alumna who currently serves as both a College Trustee and member of the Board of Directors of Middlesex County College Foundation. Johnson & Johnson has played a major role in providing support to the MCC Foundation for scholarships in support of deserving and talented students who are pursuing careers in the Health Sciences.
Johnson & Johnson’s leadership and philanthropic support is known and appreciated throughout Middlesex County and well beyond. Over 400 Johnson & Johnson employees are Middlesex County College graduates. Many Johnson & Johnson scholarship recipients have become regional radiologists, dental hygienists, and nurses. These students and graduates continue to voice their appreciation of J&J’s good citizenship throughout the communities in which they live and work.
Renewed Scholarship Support from Bristol-Myers Squibb Company
Bristol-Myers Squibb Company made a generous gift of $20,000 in May 2009 to support the Bristol-Myers Squibb Scholarships for students in the Division of Science, Mathematics, and Health Technologies at Middlesex County College. MCC Foundation is pleased that Bristol-Myers Squibb has renewed its scholarship support for the 2009-2010 academic year, which will assist deserving MCC students to fulfill their educational and career goals. It provides financial assistance to qualified students who would otherwise be unable to afford to enroll and pursue their studies at MCC, or whose academic progress would be delayed or impeded due to work or family obligations that impact on their financial need. Middlesex County College Foundation is grateful that Bristol-Myers Squibb Company shares its commitment to make a positive difference in people’s lives, and that BMS understands the importance this investment in MCC students will have on the future of the community overall.
