Basic Skills: Mathematics: This 40-hour program is designed to help those employees who need a refresher in basic arithmetic skills. Participants will learn arithmetic functions to increase accuracy in their daily activities. Emphasis will be on addition, subtraction, multiplying and dividing, with percentages, fractions and decimals. Class will be held 4 hours a week for 10 weeks.
Basic Skills: ESL Level 1: This 80-hour program is intended for participants with limited English language skills. Emphasis is placed on everyday words, phrases, conversations, vocabulary, job instructions, as well as an introduction to basic reading and writing. Class will be held 4 hours a week for 20 weeks.
Basic Skills: ESL Level 2: This 80-hour program is intended for participants with some English skills. Increased use of vocabulary and everyday conversations will be stressed as well as the ability to initiate an English conversation. Participants will increase their reading and writing ability and develop a basic understanding of grammar in English. Class will be held 4 hours a week for 20 weeks.
Basic Skills: Basic Communication Skills: This 40-hour program is intended for participants with good English skills. Emphasis is placed on grammar and vocabulary as well as writing to convey the right message. Class will be held 4 hours a week for 10 weeks.
Basic PC Skills: Introduction to Windows: This course presents the basic concepts of Windows. The participants will be introduced to the features of Windows and the steps required in using the features correctly. Lessons include: Working with folders and files, using navigation features, working with shortcuts and compressed folders, and customizing the start menu. This 8-hour course will be delivered in two 4-hour sessions.
Basic PC Skills: Introduction to Word: This course is intended for participants with very little word processing experience. Participants will learn how to create, enhance, spell-check, edit and save a document. This 8-hour course will be delivered in two 4-hour sessions.
Basic PC Skills: Introduction to the Internet: This course is designed to introduce internet concepts to those with very little knowledge or experience. Participants will utilize tools to explore the internet and understand the basic concepts as well as vocabulary associated with the internet. This 8-hour course will be delivered in two 4-hour sessions.
Basic Skills: E-mail: This course presents the beginning concepts of Microsoft Outlook. Concepts taught include: Working with the address book, creating contacts, using e-mail, and managing a calendar. The appropriate use of e-mail will also be discussed. This 8-hour course will be delivered in two 4-hour sessions.
Basic Skills: Work Readiness: This course is designed to teach participants the desired traits of a worker. Topics include: punctuality, following direction, valued work behaviors, interaction with co-workers and supervisors, handling different personalities and managing conflict. This 20-hour course will be delivered in five 4-hour sessions.
