Academic Advisors' Manual
Middlesex County College

Welcome to the Advisors' Manual

"Advising is that part of teaching which stretches beyond instruction, beyond lectures and seminars.  Its words reach students during moments of reflection when they are pondering the future and their place in it."  Berdahl, Educating the Whole Person (1995)

"An excellent advisor does the same for the student's entire curriculum that the excellent teacher does for one course."  Marc Lowenstein (2005)

The purpose of this Advisors' Manual is to provide you with all the information you need to be a helpful and effective advisor at Middlesex County College. The Manual is constantly being updated and revised, so please make frequent visits.  Any new and important changes affecting the information that advisors need for their advisees will always be found on the What's New Page.

Please let us know if this manual is helpful to you. If there is anything we can do to make it more useful, please let us know. Click on advising@middlesexcc.edu to send an e-mail message or click the Help for Advisors or Send Feedback links that can be found at the bottom of this or any other page in the Manual.

Remember these wonderful words:

Those who give advice have one of life's enormous responsibilities.

They provide the clay for potters to form and shape their work.

They provide the tapestry with which painters can fashion their art.

They provide the earth from which seeds can blossom into beautiful flowers.

Their responsibility is only outweighed by the joy they experience in the success of their endeavors.

If you have not already done so, please respond to the Online Manual Survey.
