Six Athletes Named Academic All Americans
Six athletes from Middlesex County College have been named to the Academic All-America team for the 2009-2010 academic year. To qualify, they must have a 3.6 grade point average with at least 45 credits.

Middlesex County College Announces Smoke-Free Policy
Middlesex County College recently announced a new policy that prohibits smoking anywhere on campus. The policy, which took effect July 1, prohibits smoking tobacco in any campus building, College vehicle or while outdoors. The only exception is in personal vehicles.

Express Yourself: College to Hold Tri-State Writers’ Workshop
A writers’ workshop open to the public will be held at Middlesex County College on Friday, August 6. The program mixes sessions on writing skills with practical tips on selling what you have written. There is also a spoken word contest; the winner will receive $100.

College Offers Workshop for Educators on Tourette Syndrome
A workshop aimed at helping educators who work with children and young adults with Tourette Syndrome is being offered at Middlesex County College Tuesday, March 23. The program, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., will cover strategies to help high school students transition into college as well as what research says about studying, test-taking and success for students with Tourette Syndrome.

In a ceremony that honored the past and acclaimed the future, Middlesex County College held a groundbreaking October 9 to highlight the start of construction on its new building, which is being named for the late David B. Crabiel, longtime freeholder director.

Free Workshops Offered on Completing Federal Financial Aid Form at Perth Amboy and New Brunswick Centers
Middlesex County College is offering free workshops on how to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at the College’s New Brunswick Center and the Perth Amboy Center. The Perth Amboy workshops will be Monday, May 11 or Wednesday, May 20 from 5-7 p.m. The New Brunswick programs will be Tuesday, May 12 or Tuesday, May 19 from 4-6 p.m.

Student Newspaper at College Wins Seven Awards in State Contest
“Quo Vadis,” the Middlesex County College student newspaper, won seven awards – including one for general excellence – in the 2008-2009 New Jersey College Newspaper Contest. The paper as a whole won three awards and four staff members took home individual honors.

Perth Amboy and New Brunswick Centers to Hold Open Houses on May 11 and May 13
The Perth Amboy and New Brunswick Centers of Middlesex County College will hold their annual Open Houses in May. The Perth Amboy Open House is Monday, May 11 and the New Brunswick Center Open House is Wednesday, May 13. Each will run from 4 to 7 p.m.

Free Training Program for Low-Income Residents Offered
A new free program that will train individuals in allied health and transportation is being offered to low-income Middlesex County residents. The program, funded by a grant from the Middlesex County Department of Workforce Development, is open to those 18-21 years old. They will actually be paid for their participation: $4.50 for each classroom hour; $7.15 for each internship hour and $20 per day during occupational training.
