Residency Requirements

Residency Requirements to Receive the In-County Tuition Rate

Permanent residents of Middlesex County are entitled to an in-county tuition rate. All other students will be charged the out-of-county rate. A student seeking eligibility for the in-county tuition rate must provide documentation of permanent residency in Middlesex County at least 30 days prior to the first day of the semester.

 

  • To be eligible for in-county tuition rate, a student must demonstrate both one year of residency in New Jersey and at least a 30 day residency in the county.

 

  • Permanent residency in New Jersey is defined as residing in New Jersey for a period of 12 months prior to initial enrollment.

 

  • Residency in Middlesex County is defined as residing in the county for 30 days prior to the semester/session enrolling at the college.

 

  • A dependent matriculated student who has been determined to be a New Jersey resident shall continue to be eligible for the in-county tuition rate despite a change of domicile to another state by the student's supporting parent(s) or guardian(s) provided that the student maintains New Jersey residency during each academic year of enrollment.

 

  • Out-of-state residents moving into a county in New Jersey other than Middlesex County will continue to be charged the out-of-county tuition for one year at which time permanent residency may be declared.

 

  • United States military personnel and their dependents who are living in New Jersey and enrolled at the college shall be regarded as residents of New Jersey for the purpose of determining tuition.

 

  • Au Pairs to receive the in-county rate must provide a note to the cashier’s office from the employer indicating he/she is paying the tuition and proof that the employer resides in the county. The note simply says this person lives with them and they intend to support her education.

 

The following documents may be submitted to the Office of the Registrar to verify permanent residency in the county.

i               Sign the Middlesex County College Residency Documentation Form

stating his /her residence (available from the website and from the Registrar’s Office);

               And submit

ii              Two of the following documents:

a. Current lease or deed

b. Recent Property tax bill

c. Current Utility Bill

d. Current Credit Card Statement

e. A signed Voter Registration Certificate

f. Valid New Jersey motor vehicle license or registration.

g. Two pieces of current business mail sent from an address other than the college to the student at the Middlesex County residential address

f. Where none of the verifying documents listed in (a) through (g) are available, a

notarized affidavit shall set forth the place and commencement date of

permanent residence, relationship to the owner of the property, and the

term of any lease.

iii             A student under 24 years old, claiming himself/herself for tax purposes, and not

living with his/her parents or guardian must submit:

a. A copy of their most recent New Jersey income tax form

b. A copy of their parent’s/guardian’s most recent New Jersey income tax form
