STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
Membership is open to all students.
College Center Program Board
The College Center Program Board provides educational and recreational activities to meet the contemporary needs of the campus community through the five standing committees described below. The Board is composed of representatives from all organizations as well as other interested students.
Concert Committee
The Concert Committee arranges concerts featuring a wide variety of music, including classical, ethnic, club rock and hardcore.
Films Committee
The Films Committee schedules a program of contemporary, classic and foreign films and also provides services, such as discounted movie passes to local theaters.
Fine Arts Committee
The Fine Arts Committee selects and sets up various art exhibits that are displayed in the College Center Art Gallery and sponsors cultural events, dance ensembles and theatrical performances throughout the year. Taking advantage of MCC’s proximity to New York, the Committee also offers trips to museums and operas.
Forum Committee
The Forum Committee sponsors individuals who are concerned with current issues and events to address the campus community through a variety of formats, including large group lectures and small group workshops.
Social Committee
The Social Committee plans and implements the “fun” activities for the College community, such as the annual Halloween party, whitewater rafting excursions on the Lehigh River, trips to the theater in New York and to sporting events.
Myriad
Myriad is the Middlesex County College literary magazine. Comprised of MCC students, Myriad is also a student organization dedicated to the free expression of ideas and serves as a cultural voice for students and the College community. Any member of the College community may submit creative writing, artwork and/or photography for publication in Myriad.
Quo Vadis
Quo Vadis, the College’s weekly newspaper, is co-sponsored by the Office of Student Activities and the English Department. The staff is comprised of student editors, reporters, photographers and cartoonists, who compose and publish news stories, feature articles, reviews, opinion pieces, sports stories and information about on-campus activities. The Quo Vadis Office is located in Room 316 of the College Center.
WMCC
WMCC, the College’s radio club, broadcasts daily within the College Center. Through its musical, educational and informational programs, the station serves the College community and provides an opportunity for students in the Communications option to further their interests. WMCC is located in Room 308 of the College Center.
Accounting Society – IMA Student Chapter
A student chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants (the world’s largest professional organization of accountants), the society, affiliated with the Raritan Valley Chapter, serves as a channel of communication among students, accounting faculty and the business community. Here students have the opportunity to meet professionally and socially, enabling them to further their overall education in accounting. In addition to sponsoring annual trips to the New York Stock Exchange and the Federal Reserve Bank as well as plant tours of manufacturing facilities, the Society also participates in community service activities.
Adelante
Striving to empower students to realize and achieve their academic and professional aspirations, Adelante also works to foster awareness of issues pertaining to Latinos globally as members seek to exchange cultural and intellectual experiences with people from all cultures. Adelante means “moving forward” in Spanish and is an acronym for “Advancement, Dedication, Education, Leadership, Achievement, Now is the Time for Excellence.” For more information, contact the Minority Student Affairs Office in South I, Room 113. The Advocates For Students With Learning Differences (A.S.L.D.)
The Advocates for Students With Learning Differences reaches out to students with different learning preferences in the College community to provide a social and educational support network.
Alpha Mu Gamma – IOTA TAU Chapter (The National Language Honor Society)
The National Language Honor Society affords students of French, German, Italian and Spanish the opportunity to enjoy informal gatherings and excursions to the theater, cinema and opera, through the study of languages.
Anime Game Tech
This club is dedicated to help spread interest in anime, a form of Japanese animation that has become popular in the United States. The members view anime showings, play video games using anime graphics, attend trips, conventions and other anime related activities and sponsor a variety of contests at college wide Student Activities events.
Art and Photography Club
Through various field trips, community service projects and social functions throughout the year, the club stimulates interest in art and photography.
Asian Club
To promote the understanding of the cultures and languages of Asian students, the club sponsors study and social groups as well as a festival.
Association of Indian Students (AIS)
AIS seeks to foster an awareness of the Indian culture among Indian students and members of the College community through films, seminars, lectures and group discussions.
Backstage Players
The Backstage Players provides the opportunity for all MCC students to be involved in the production of theatre events at the College. Club members also participate in forums on topics such as design philosophies, special effects, advertising, and others involved in a full-scale production.
Baseball Club
The Baseball Club offers students the opportunity to meet new friends and improve their baseball skills as members participate in collegiate-like practices as well as scrimmages against themselves and other area clubs. Running from September to late October, and late January through May, the club meets every day except Monday at the baseball field located behind the Physical Education Center. To participate, members should have some high school varsity experience and must have proof of both a recent physical by a licensed physician and current medical insurance coverage on file in the College Nurse’s office.
Better Than Ever Club
The Better Than Ever Club seeks to provide opportunities for sophisticated students to meet together for social, educational and support activities. Full or part-time students as well as faculty and staff are eligible for membership. Biology Society
To promote an interest in all aspects of biology, the Biology Society has sponsored ecological awareness and recycling programs, guest speakers, fund-raisers and other events to address community concerns. Members visit museums and aquariums and take field trips to natural areas.
Caribbean Vibes
Caribbean Vibes provides the College community with an opportunity to experience the rich Caribbean culture through performances and events.
Catholic Campus Ministry
Serving the campus in fellowship, Divine Chaplet prayer and worship services (held in the College Center on Tuesdays at 1:00 p.m. during the semester), the members hold mass services on special Holy days and are involved in Christian charitable works. All are welcome.
Cheerleading Squad
In its support of the MCC Athletic Department, the Cheerleading Squad seeks to promote participation and enthusiasm on campus as well as within the community and is involved in fundraisers and charitable events on and off campus.
Chemistry Club
Dedicated to improving the state of the environment and the human condition through the study of chemistry, the Chemistry Club is also committed to advancing the members’ professional goals through interaction with academic leaders in chemistry departments at various colleges and universities and business leaders in chemical industries.
Christians On Campus
Meeting weekly for Bible study and worship, the group works to help people learn more about Christian values and beliefs. All students, staff and faculty are welcome.
Circle K International
The focus of Circle K is twofold: making the community better through service projects for local nonprofit organizations, and making its members better through leadership development opportunities. The group is affiliated with Kiwanis International and the high school Key clubs.
Civil/Construction Society (CCS)
Along with fellow students, faculty and local technicians, CCS members meet weekly for field trips, outside speakers and films. The group participates in the Habitat for Humanity Home Rebuilding Project.
Collegiate Association of Administrative Professionals (CAAP)
CAAP enhances the leadership skills of those who will become a part of the executive team in the information age. Members meet for professional and social activities on campus and attend local IAAP chapter meetings and the IAAP International Convention.
Computer Enthusiasts Club
This club includes people interested in Computer Science as well as those interested in all aspects of computers, such as video games, programming, graphics, and technical support. The members spread the interest in computers through graphics contests, movies playing video games, and programming activities, and attend trips, conventions and technical shows.
Concerned Parents For Child Care
Through meetings, workshops, lectures, films and classroom participation, club members share ideas and concerns as they seek to promote an understanding of the child-parent relationship and to ensure a continuation of the present quality of child care at the Child Care Center. Members also conduct two annual fund-raisers to pay for field trips and other “extras.”
Cosmos Literary Magazine
Sponsored by the Modern Languages Department and the Center for International Education, the literary magazine promotes diversity and sharing of cultures.
Criminal Justice Association
Offering all students the chance to learn about the criminal justice system and to network with each other regarding job opportunities, the Association features speakers, fund-raisers and social activities.
Dance Club
Beginners and experienced dancers have the opportunity to become involved in the creative arts experience with three master classes/workshops per semester in all areas of dance, from ballet and jazz to modern and social. The club also sponsors film presentations and a trip to a professional dance performance.
Dance Team
To promote school spirit, the team performs dance routines at the Men’s home basketball games and at other special functions at the College, and participates in fundraisers, charitable events and regional dance competitions. Audition required.
Dietetic Technology Club
Through various field trips and community service projects that focus on the nutritional health of our society, the Dietetic Technology Club provides opportunities to develop leadership skills and promote professionalism in the field of dietetics.
Divine Sisterhood Club
Open to all women students who want to explore and celebrate diversity while acknowledging and understanding their own cultural heritage, the club is dedicated to helping women excel in their careers, families and communities. The Divine Sisterhood Club also promotes awareness of worldwide events and issues that affect women.
Educational Opportunity Fund Club
As a resource for members to strengthen their leadership skills and college commitment, the EOF Club provides members the opportunity to voice personal views and further cultural awareness.
English As A Second Language
To afford students the opportunity to participate in College functions along with the American and other international students, members of the ESL Club, together with the International Club, learn more about American culture through informal activities, such as dances, parties, picnics and trips.
Fine Arts Club
To acquaint students with the many aspects of the visual arts (painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking and ceramics), the club sponsors guest lecturers, demonstrations, museum trips, film showings and discussions.
First World African Nation (FWAN)
Fostering an awareness of African, African-American and African-Caribbean culture and history, FWAN develops programs and activities that highlight the contributions of African people to the world.
French Club
Seeking to enrich their knowledge of the language and culture of France and other French speaking countries, club members plan and participate in activities both on and off-campus, including French language games, conversation, trips to museums, movies, theaters, cafes and restaurants in New York City and local cultural sites.
Hindu Student Council (HSC)
Through various activities, events and projects, HSC, an international forum, offers opportunities for learning about Hindu heritage and for developing on the spiritual and professional levels.
Hip Hop Dance Club
The Hip Hop Dance Team members learn dance techniques of R&B, Reggae, Hip Hop, Street and Freestyle and perform the routines they learn as they express themselves in dance. For more information, contact the Minority Student Affairs Office in South I Room 113. Telephone: (732) 906-2532.
Hispanic-American Club
To bring greater awareness and consciousness of Hispanic culture among Hispanic students and the College community, the club sponsors cultural, social and educational activities, and is open to anyone who wants to participate, to contribute or to learn about the Hispanic culture.
Club Hispano Americano
El proposito del Club Hispano Americano es fomenter una gran conciencia de unidad entre los estudiantes Hispanos a traves de programas culturales socials y educacionales. El club de la bienvenida a todos los que deseen participar, contribuir o aprender sobre la cultura Hispana.
IEEE
A student branch of the Institution for Electrical and Electronic Engineers, a national professional organization, IEEE sponsors lectures, field trips and other activities of interest to future engineers and technicians.
International Student Union
The International Student Union works to demonstrate international cultural contributions to society.
Italian Club
Offering the College community, friends and families the opportunity to experience Italian culture, the club sponsors trips to “Little Italy” and to films, operas and dances that focus on the Italian heritage.
Lambda Alliance of MCC
A social organization to promote the understanding and concerns of gay, lesbian and bisexual students, the group sponsors social and informational activities as well as informal “rap” sessions.
Martial Arts/Self-Defense Club
Self-Defense Club members learn Tae Kwon Do and are able to obtain a belt rank FREE of charge. Martial Arts Club members with at least three months experience may compete in intercollegiate tournaments (kata/kumate). Proof of both a recent physical by a licensed physician and current medical insurance coverage must be on file in the College Nurse’s office and this may be accomplished free of charge through the College Nurse.
Math Club
As Math Club members consider interesting and diverse mathematics problems, they gain preparation for Math League tests and are encouraged to share ideas concerning Mathematics.
Math League
Students with pre-calculus and strong analytical skills may compete for scholarship money and prizes by taking the American Mathematics Association of Two-Year Colleges Competition Exams. Three tests are given throughout the year.
MCC Community Scholars Corps
By organizing community service projects, this diverse team of students seeks to address the unmet needs of the local community.
MCC Mixed Spices Club
Seeking to foster an awareness of the differences and similarities of all cultures, the club is open to the entire MCC community and sponsors an annual “Cultural Exposition” of food, fashion and music, trips emphasizing ethnic/cultural themes, guest speakers, and fundraising and charitable events.
Medical Laboratory Technicians
To help increase their knowledge of the medical laboratory profession, the members sponsor lectures and trips to relevant seminars throughout New Jersey.
Middlesex Alcohol and Drug Education Committee (MADE)
To provide the College community with information regarding the misuse and abuse of alcohol and drug abuse, MADE sponsors lectures and video programs, attends conferences training programs, staffs the Reflection and Recovery Room, and disseminates alcohol and drug information throughout the College. Middlesex County College Christian Fellowship (MC3F)
A Christian organization dedicated to MCC students, members tell others about the good news of Jesus Christ the Saviour of the world. MC3F’s goals include giving scholarships and helping with personal issues and academic progress. The club meets Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Technical Services Center Room 100. Middlesex Track Club
The Club provides track and field competitions from the middle of November to the middle of March. Most meets are held at the 168th Street Armory in N.Y.C. at 6:00 p.m. starting time. Minority Access to the Professions Scholars (MAPS) Club
As a resource to learn management strategies, negotiation processes, communication techniques, goal-setting and problem-solving skills and role development, the MAPS Club provides members the opportunity to strengthen their leadership skills, college commitment and academic competence. Muslim Student Association
Designed to help bring together the Muslim community on campus and to encourage and facilitate the awareness and practice of Islam, the club holds weekly prayer meetings on Fridays.
National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)
With more than 15,000 members, NSBE is one of the largest student-managed organizations in the country. NSBE’s mission is to increase the number of culturally responsible minority students who excel academically and succeed professionally and who have a positive impact on the community. Pagan Society
Interested in nature and earth-based religions, the Pagan Society members believe in giving back to the earth. The Society promotes spiritual and mental wellness through community service, discussion, debates and workshops that promote religious tolerance.
Pakistani Club
To promote intercultural understanding, the club sponsors cultural and social activities for Pakistani students that demonstrate the rich heritage of Pakistani people. Members organize and participate in charitable events and hold bake sales and concerts.
Partners In Prayer
Providing a venue for students to get together for prayer and bible study and to compare religions through discussion and debate, the club also hosts parties, trips and movies. Refreshments are provided, and all are welcome.
People In Education (P.I.E.)
Involving students in projects related to the education of young children and/or special children, P.I.E. members participate in various activities, including the N.J. Teachers Convention, educational field trips and community service projects. For more information, contact club advisor John Gutowski in Raritan Hall Room 127.
Peer Guidance Organization (PGO)
This peer-counseling program is designed to provide support to all students attending the College. PGO members are supervised by professional counselors and make referrals to them as well as other individuals and departments on campus.
