H1N1 Flu

As you are certainly aware, this summer there were numerous cases of the H1N1 influenza reported throughout the nation. We anticipate that as flu season approaches, that number will increase. It is important for the College community to be aware and to take precautions, but not to become frightened or to panic. There is absolutely no cause for alarm at the present time.

The experts say that influenza is spread mainly from person-to-person, through coughing or sneezing. Avoid people who are ill.

Other precautions:

Cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze. If you use a tissue, throw it away after use.
Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing and before eating. You may also use an alcohol-based hand cleaner.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

Hand sanitizers will be handed out at the Health and Safety Fair October 8. They will also be available in the Health and Safety Office in South II.

You may wish to receive a vaccination for the seasonal flu and/or the H1N1 virus. The seasonal flu vaccination may be administered at any time; the H1N1 vaccination is being developed and may be administered when it becomes available.
