STARS Online Guidelines, Terms & Conditions

Please read before applying

(Note: Our STARS Online application has no relation to the New Jersey STARS program.)1

Sign-in Information

  • If you do not have a username and password yet, click on the “RETRIEVE PASSWORD” button and use your MCC email address. A temporary password will be emailed to you immediately. Please check your email address entry for accuracy. All contact regarding awards and additional opportunities will go to the email address you list.
  • Know your MCC Student ID. You cannot apply for scholarships if you are not enrolled.
  • DO NOT USE ALL CAPS. The way you type your information is the way you’ll see it when you receive email from the scholarships office.

Helpful Hints

  • When completing each section of the application, you must click “Save and Exit” or “Save and Continue” or your answers will not be saved. Do this regularly.
  • Complete the entire application. Recommended scholarships will not be listed if the application is not finished. Because of the magnitude of applicants, incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • For free-form questions, click on “edit” and a text box will appear for your answers. (Hint: You may type your answers into a Word document, then cut and paste into the application text box). It is recommended that each essay is at least 200 words in length.
  • IMPORTANT: Please know which degree you are pursuing. All scholarships are linked to a degree and will affect which scholarships are recommended to you. View Degree and Certificate Programs.
  • For more helpful tools, please check out the Scholarships Homepage.

Letters of Recommendation

  • Unless otherwise noted, we are no longer requiring letters of recommendation. Please read the description of the scholarship you are applying for to see if a letter of recommendation is required.
  • All scholarships that require volunteerism or civic involvement will need a letter of recommendation from your supervisor. In some instances, more than one will be needed.
  • If applicable, it is your responsibility to ensure that a letter of recommendation from a professor, minister or employer, as indicated, has been uploaded to your application. STARS Online allows you to request a recommendation via email from your application. Under “Attach Documents” click on the Recommendation Letters icon, provide the contact information as directed and under Select a Request Template, choose Recommendation Request. You will be notified when the recommender has received your email and when the Scholarships office has received the recommendation.
  • If you prefer, you may email a copy of the attached form to your recommender. You can upload the signed copy and attach it to your online application or email it to our office at scholarships@middlesexcc.edu. Click here to download the Letter of Recommendation Form.

Scholarship Terms and Conditions

  • Scholarships will not be credited to your college tuition bill until a thoughtfully worded thank you letter to the donor(s) is submitted to the Scholarships Office.
  • Scholarships are issued as a tuition credit. If your tuition has already been paid, a refund will be distributed by the Office of Student Account Services after mid-terms.
  • Scholarships are immediately rescinded if the student no longer meets the scholarship requirements. Under NO circumstance will a scholarship be awarded or remain awarded to a student who is taking less than SIX (6) credits.
  • If noted in letter of congratulations, scholarship recipients are required to attend an annual scholarship reception to be held on Thursday, November 19, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. to meet and personally thank the donors. A renewal award (if applicable) will not be issued for spring 2016 to students who were invited but did not attend this event.
  • Students must apply for a FAFSA grant if they want to be considered for a need-based scholarship: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ (MCC Federal School Code-002615)
  • Academic Information will be verified during the scholarship award process.
  • Financial information will be verified during the scholarship award process.
  • The availability of scholarships each academic year is subject to change throughout the application period. Please plan to check your online application regularly.
  • MCC’s Scholarship Office reserves the right to adjust scholarship awards.
  • Knowingly providing false information automatically disqualifies you from all scholarships.
  • Preference for spring 2016 awards will be made to students who have not yet received a scholarship for 2015-2016.
  • Students who do not qualify for federally or state funded financial aid will receive first consideration for scholarships.
  • Note: Middlesex County College is a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) – Division III member institution. NJCAA rules prohibit the awarding of scholarships based upon athletics criteria. Therefore, the College is prohibited from awarding scholarships based upon athletic ability, leadership, participation or performance. However, athletes are strongly encouraged to apply for more than 100 MCC scholarships that are not based on athletics criteria.
  • By submitting your online application, you agree to release your records/photos to scholarship donors and review committee members, if requested.
  • Departmental Awards are awarded by various college departments and are not available through the STARS Online process.
  • MCC encourages scholarship applications from qualified students regardless of color, race, religion, national origin, gender, disability, or marital status.
