BUS 010 Freshman Seminar - Business

This exciting course will provide you with academic, personal, and keyboarding skills, as well as help you plan for success and sharpen skills which are essential for success in college.
 
Guided by professors who understand and can relate to your concerns about being successful in college, some of the topics include:  thinking and problem solving, time management, study skills, test-taking skills, and self-esteem.  The course will meet 3 hours weekly and will include lectures, group discussions, assigned readings, and hands-on exercises.  You will be graded on class assignments, midterm and final exams, a case study, and keyboarding technique.

CSC 010 Concepts in Computers

This course prepares students to interact with a personal computer and learn to use word processing and other programs which will help them in their college careers.  Emphasis is on developing problem-solving skills through critical thinking.  Skills learned on the personal computer will form a solid foundation for all future careers that use computer technology.

Grades will be based upon class participation, hands-on work, class tests and quizzes.  No prior computer knowledge is necessary to enjoy this course.

SSH 010 Freshman Seminar

This innovative and enjoyable course will help students make a successful transition from high school or work to the college environment.  It is designed to help students acquire the academic, personal, and interpersonal skills that will ensure their success in college.  The course will help to improve skills in note-taking, test-taking, time-management, studying, reasoning, research and goal-setting.  In addition, an important goal of the course is to assist students to understand themselves and others better and to become more accepting of their differences.  The availability of campus support services is also emphasized.

Professors who teach this course have a special ability to understand the concerns of students who are beginning their college work.  Students are graded on class assignments, quizzes, reports, research, and a final examination.

CPS 021 Career Planning

Do you ever think about life after you complete your degree?  Do you have a career plan in mind?  This course will help you assess your interests, values, and skills while exploring careers and educational opportunities.  The goal of this course is to help you answer the question, "Where do I fit?" Career assessments and computerized guidance information programs will be integrated into the course.  You will learn to use the Internet for self and career exploration and practice decision making, goal setting, job search strategies, interviewing techniques, and resume writing.  Grading will be based on class participation, quizzes, homework and experiential projects assigned throughout the semester.  A positive attitude and a desire to explore the unknown are necessary requirements.
