Learning with Digital Images

Location: JLC 123.
This workshop will allow participants to explore the use of digital images in teaching and learning. Starting with ARTstore an online digital library of approaching one million images, to using photo and video libraries, to how to create your own digital images for use in teaching and learning. Participants will also learn how to use the latest in multimedia presentation and slideshow software to assemble and even narrate presentations for delivery online or in the classroom.
- The ARTstor Digital Library has over 700,000 images of works of Art, Architecture and Photography. ARTstor high quality images are available for download and use in presentations for educational use.
- Films Media Group (a part of Films for the Science & Humanities) has a library of over 12,000 educational videos which they are rapidly making available online as videos with learning objects in a Video On Demand format.
The workshop will be facilitated by Brian Richards, Director of Instructional Design & Media Services and Susan Altman, Assistant Chairperson and Alane Piorier faculty member from the Visual, Media and Performing Arts Department.

Got Assignments and Grades? Using Campus Cruiser to Manage Assignment Submission and Grading.

Facilitator: Phyllis Fleming, Computer Science Department
Location: JLC 108
This workshop will help you use the three main Campus Cruiser tools needed to deal with assignments and grades: assignments editor and grade book manager. You will see how to set up a grading system using grade book manager that allows you to assign your own point values or percentage scales that correspond to letter grades. You will also see how to set up assignment categories and assignment submission settings. Lastly, you will see how to create an assignment, apply your grading system to the assignment, grade it, and publish the grade for the student.

Best Practices in Online Learning

Facilitators: Brian Richards, Director, Instructional Design & Media Services and members of the Distance Education Committee.
This will be a 'show and tell' workshop, with members of the Distance Education Committee demonstrating examples from their online courses. Examples will include multimedia content developed with such tools as Captivate and Photo Story, podcasts including audio and pdf files, online homework assignments, as well as examples of online syllabus and course design.
