Community College Opportunity Grant Advising
Dear Community College Opportunity Grant Students,
We hope your semester is off to a good start. Our names are Ria Gaviria and CJ Mooney and we work in the Academic Advising Center, located on the 2nd floor of West Hall. We are delighted to tell you that we are Academic Advisors assigned to assist participants of the Community College Opportunity Grant program. A few weeks ago, you received an email from Academic Advising notifying you about your assigned faculty Advisor. Because you participate in this program, however, you are also more than welcome to reach out to us instead of, or in addition to, your faculty advisor for any matter regarding your Academic life here at MCC.
We can be reached by e-mail or in-person if you have any questions or concerns regarding your academic progress. We are usually available to meet with students every day from 8:30-4:30 PM on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and 8:30-6:30PM on Mondays and Thursdays. Although the Advising Center operates on a walk-in and first-come, first-served basis, you will receive priority advising in the office. Simply let the staff member at the front desk know that you are a Community College Opportunity Grant Student and mention our names. You will jump to the front of the line and we will see you immediately unless we are working with another student or in a departmental meeting. We are also available to meet with you in the Perth Amboy or New Brunswick Centers by appointment.
We will be happy to speak with you about any of the following:
Future scheduling and academic planning
Concern about a particular class
Tutorial Services
Requirements for your major or exploring a new major
Any concerns regarding completing your degree at MCC
We know it seems like the semester just begun, but it is never too early to start planning your next semester, especially this time of the year when the lines are short in the advising center. Registration is ongoing for the 2021 Winter Session and Spring semester for continuing students. You do not need to wait until the current semester is over to register for the next one. Please be on the lookout for additional emails from us throughout the semester about key dates to remember and special events that may be of interest to you. We will be holding special Community College Opportunity Grant planning and registration sessions that we encourage you to attend.
We hope you take the time to come and say “hello” and we will be happy to help you in any way that we can. In the case that we are not around, you are welcome to meet with any Academic Advisor in West Hall if immediate assistance is required. We are all happy to help you.
Best wishes for a healthy and successful semester,
Ria Gaviria – Rgaviria@middlesexcc.edu
CJ Mooney – Cmooney@middlesexcc.edu
