Compendium of Curriculum Changes

All these curriculum revisions are in effect for Fall 2019, except where noted. Detailed changes in semester sequences introduced for the 2019-2020 Catalog can be found by clicking the curriculum links.

Students completing the ENG 096S/ENG 096 course do not need developmental Reading, but are required to take ENG 0121S/ENG 121.

Effective in Fall 2019, BIO 124 has a prerequisite of BIO 123 with a grade of “C” or higher.

Effective in Fall 2020, CHM 201 has a prerequisite of CHM 107 or higher with lab.

CIT 212 has prerquisites of CIT 105 or PHY 123 and MAT 129 rather than the previous CIT 105 and MAT 129B or MAT 129.

Effective in Fall 2019, CSC 162 has a prerequisite of CSC 161 with a grade of “C” or higher.

Effective in Fall 2019, CSC 236 has a prerequisite of CSC 162 with a grade of “C” or higher.

Effective in Spring 2019, MAT 113 has a co-requisite of MAT 090 rather than a prerequisite of MAT 014.

Effective in Spring 2019, MAT 123 has a co-requisite of MAT 090 rather than a prerequisite of MAT 014.

Effective in Spring 2020, MAT 285 has a prerequisite of MAT 129 rather than MAT 131.

Allied Health Pre-Professional

Effective in Fall 2019, eliminate the BIO 117-BIO 118 sequence as an option in lieu of BIO 111-BIO 112. Eliminate CHM 117 as an option in lieu of BIO 211. Eliminate CHM 118 as an option in lieu of CHM 107. Additionally, the GE Math elective will now be three credits rather than a three or four credit option.

Business and Computer Science

Effective in Fall 2019, the following changes will occur in the ACC.AAS curriculum. The PED/HED requirement and the General Education Humanities or Social Science elective requirement have been removed from the program. Additionally, the GE science must be a four-credit course.

Effective in Fall 2019, the following changes will occur in the BIS.AS curriculum. Remove CSC 200, MAT 124, MAT 285, and the PED/HED course from the major’s requirements. Additionally, remove choice of Business or Computer Science elective from the major’s requirements.

Effective in Fall 2019, the following changes will occur in the BUS.AS curriculum. The PED/HED requirement has been removed from the program. MAT 285 has been removed from the group of possible Business electives and made a third GE Math requirement. While the choice of courses among BUS 202, MGT 210, and MKT 201 remain the recommended two Business electives, the electives can also include ACC, BUS, FMR, MKT, MGT, PLS or SBM courses.

Effective in Fall 2019, the following change will occur in the CSC.AS curriculum. Remove the PED/HED requirement from the curriculum.  The Technical Elective should be either CSC 116 or CSC 205 or CSC 206 or CSC 225 or CSC 239.

Effective in Fall 2019, the following changes will occur in the CSI.AAS curriculum. Remove the PED/HED, CSC 105, CSC 110, CSC 208 and CSC 236 course requirements from the curriculum. Require both MAT 129 and 131 and remove the option of a three or four credit GE Math option.  Add CSC 225 to the fourth semester. Remove CSC 246 from the fourth semester and add it to the Technical Electives list.

Effective in Fall 2019, the following changes will occur in the CSNN.AAS curriculum. Remove the PED/HED, CSC 105, AND CSC 208 requirements from the curriculum. Require both MAT 123 and MAT 129 for the program.

Effective in Fall 2019, the following changes will occur in the FMR.AAS curriculum. Remove the PED/HED requirement from the curriculum. Change the choice of a three or four credit GE Science to a required three-credit GE Science. (Under construction)

Effective in Fall 2019, the following changes will occur in the MGT.AAS curriculum. Remove the PED/HED requirement from the curriculum. Change the choice of a three or four credit GE Science to a required three-credit GE Science.

Effective in Fall 2019, the following changes will occur in the MKT.AAS curriculum. Remove the PED/HED requirement from the curriculum. Change the choice of a three or four credit GE Science to a required three-credit GE Science.

Effective in Fall 2019, the following changes will occur in the SBUS.AAS curriculum. Remove the PED/HED requirement from the curriculum. Remove MAT 101 from the curriculum and replace it with BUS 115. Require a three credit GE HUM rather than a three of four credit GE HUM. Reduces SBM 110 credit hours from four to three.

Engineering Science

Effective in Spring 2019, delete ELT 221 from the list of Technical Electives for Civil and Mechanical Engineering majors.

Effective in Fall 2019, remove the PED requirement from the AUT.AAS, CET.AAS, EET.AAS, ES.AS, MEC.AAS, SET.AAS, and TECH.AAS curricula.

Health Science

Effective in Fall 2019, reduce the “Allied Health Requirement” from 30 credits to 25 credits. Eliminate the MAT 107-108 sequence and replace it with the MAT 101-102 sequence.

Health Technologies

Effective in Fall 2019, the PED/HED course is no longer a graduation requirement for the NRB.AS curriculum as decided by the MCC Board of Trustees. Therefore, HED 150 or HED 200 will be removed as a requirement for the NRB.AS curriculum.

Effective in Fall 2019, the PED/HED course is no longer a graduation requirement for both the RADC.AAS and RADT.AAS curricula as decided by the MCC Board of Trustees.

History and Social Science

Effective in Fall 2019, LAPSY.AA has SSD 101 as a graduation requirement. Additionally, PSY 219, PSY 222, and PSY 235 are recommended as choices for the two PSY electives; SOC 121 or SOC 131 is recommended as the GE SS elective; HED 200 or PSY 163 or PSY 217 is recommended as the GE Diversity elective.

Effective immediately, LASS.AA is inactive. Students currently in the major can continue to finish degree requirements, however new students or those interested in changing their major into LASS.AA will not be permitted to choose it. Please advise students to consider other Liberal Arts programs such as LAPSY.AA or LAPOS.AA or LASOC.AA or LASRS.AA in its stead.

Effective in Fall 2019, the following changes will occur in the CJC.AS and CJP.AS curricula. The PED/HED requirement has been eliminated. GE MAT and GE Science courses must be three credits rather than four credits. For the CJC.AS major, PHI 123 is recommended as the GE HUM elective and MAT 123 and SCI 206 are recommended for the GE MAT and GE SCI requirements. For the CJP.AS major, MAT 123 and SCI 206 are recommended as the three credit GE MAT and GE Science requirements.

Effective in Fall 2019, the following changes will occur in the EDU.AS curriculum. HED 150 has been eliminated as a requirement. CSC 105 and CSC 106 have been eliminated as technology course options. HIS 131 or HIS 132 have been added as History options. Replace the GE Science three or four credit elective with a GE three credit elective. Replace the BIO four credit elective with a BIO three credit elective.

Effective in Fall 2019, the following changes will occur in the HCS.AS curriculum. PED/HED has been eliminated as a requirement. The GE Math elective has been changed from a three or four credit elective to MAT 123.

Hospitality, Culinary, and Dietetic Technology

Effective in Fall 2019, CULI.AAS, DIET.AAS, DIET.AS, and HOSP.AAS have eliminated the PED/HED elective as a graduation requirement in accordance with the decision of the recent Board of Trustees meeting.

Liberal Arts

Effective in Fall 2019, all Liberal Arts AA programs have eliminated the HED or PED requirement. Additionally, all GE Math and Science courses must be 3 credits.

Effective in Spring 2019, LAMLA.AA has removed the requirement that students need a 200 level PSY or SOC elective. Replace it with Recommended GE Social Science elective with no level specification.

Effective in Spring 2019, Liberal Arts Philosophy (LAPHI.AA) will now include PHI 232 (Social and Political Philosophy) rather than HIS 245 (History of Major World Religions) as one of its major requirements.

Mathematics

Effective in Fall 2019, the following changes will occur in the MAT.AS curriculum. Elimination of PED/HED as a curriculum requirement. Eight credits of Computer Science (CSC 161 and CSC 162) replace General Biology I and II or General Chemistry I and II. There is an additional GE Humanities elective. MAT 123 or MAT 124 or ECO 201 or ECO 202 are now included as possible technical electives.

Natural Sciences

Effective in Fall 2019, BIO.AS has the following revisions. If CSC 106 is needed, 2 credits of PED are required. If the student is exempt from CSC 106, an additional Biology elective and 1 credit of PED is required. BIO 221 has been moved to the Biology elective category and MAT 132 has been added to the Math/Science elective category.

Effective in Fall 2019, BIOTC.AS has the following revisions. The PED requirement has been removed from the curriculum. MAT 132 has been removed from the curriculum.

Effective in Fall 2019, BPPST.AS has the following revisions. If CSC 106 is needed, 2 credits of PED are required. If the student is exempt from CSC 106, an additional technical elective and 1 credit of PED is required. CHM 221/227 and CHM 222/228 become an option with PHY 123/125 and PHY 124/126. This will allow flexibility for students with different career goals. The Science/Math elective choices have been reduced to BIO 221 or BIO 228 or CHM 202.

Effective in Fall 2019, CHM.AS has the following revisions. If CSC 106 is needed, 2 credits of PED are required. If the student is exempt from CSC 106, an additional Chemistry elective and 1 credit of PED is required. CHM 230 and CHM 240 have been moved to the technical elective category. BIO 228, BIO 229, and BIO 251/252 are removed as options in the technical elective category. MAT 233 has been added to the technical elective category for those students interested in extending their proficiency in math. MAT 131 and MAT 132 replace MAT 129 and MAT 131as the required math sequence.

Effective in Fall 2019, EASC.AS has the following revisions. If CSC 106 is needed, 2 credits of PED are required. If the student is exempt from CSC 106, an additional technical elective and 1 credit of PE is required. SCI 256 is eliminated as an option for the technical elective.

Effective in Fall 2019, FIRE.AAS has the following revisions, The PED elective is changed from 1-3 credits to 2 credits. The Math requirement will be reduced from the 6 credit MAT 107 and MAT 108 sequence to a 3 credit elective of MAT 101 or MAT 102 or MAT 123. CHM 107 replaces SCI 207. PED 225 replaces the Free Elective.

Effective in Fall 2019, PHY.AS has the following revisions. PED credits have changed from 1-3 to 2. MAT 210 has been removed as a required course. However, MAT 210 has been added as an option within the Technical Elective category. SCI 158 replaces SCI 256 as a Technical Elective.

Effective in Fall 2019, PRT.AAS has the following revisions. The PED elective will be replaced by PED 225. The Math requirement will be reduced from the 6 credit MAT 107 and MAT 108 sequence to a 3 credit elective of MAT 101 or MAT 102 or MAT 123. CHM 107 replaces CHM 117. The credits for the technical elective are reduced from 3 or 4 to 3. SCI I55 has been eliminated as a choice for the technical elective and FSC 107 has been added as a choice for a technical elective.

Effective in Fall 2019, SUS.AS has the following revisions. The PED requirement has been dropped. SCI 258 (3 credits) and one other four credit technical elective are now required.

Public Health

Effective in Fall 2019, PUBH.AS has the following revisions. Eliminate the CHM 117/118 sequence and replace it with CHM 107 and MAT 124. The Language I or MAT 129 option has been replaced by the Language I requirement. The Language II or SCI 226 option has been changed to the Language II requirement.

Psychosocial Rehabilitation

Effective in Fall 2019, PSR.AS has the following revisions. BIO 104 replaces BIO 106. MAT 107 has been removed as one of the possible required GE Math courses. HED 150 has also been removed as a curriculum requirement.

Visual, Performing and Media Arts

Effective in Fall 2019, ART.AFA has the following revisions. The PED/HED requirement has been eliminated. The two General Education Language electives have been changed to two ART electives. The two HIS requirements have been changed to HIS 121 and either HIS 122 or ART 125. The second GE Math or GE science elective has been eliminated.

Effective in Fall 2019, MUS.AFA has the following revisions. The PED/HED requirement and one Music elective have been eliminated. MUS 145 is suggested to fulfill the Diversity requirement.

Effective in Fall 2019, THE.AFA has the following revisions. The PED/HED requirement has been eliminated. The second GE Math or GE science elective has been eliminated. The THE or approved elective has been changed to a DAN elective. THE 132, formerly an elective, is now required. The THE 123 or THE 152 elective is changed to THE 123 only. ENG 234 is recommended as the GE Humanities elective.

Effective in Fall 2019, the MAD.AAS, MADAD.AAS, MADGA.AAS, and MADPH.AAS majors have eliminated the PED/HED curriculum requirement.
