Lakhwinderpal Singh ’11

Lakhwinderpal SinghWhat have you been up to since graduation?

I earned my Bachelors of Science in Business Administration – Management from Thomas Edison State University in 2015. Currently, I am working on my Masters of Art in Liberal Studies concentrating on Online Learning and Teaching.

What is one of your greatest achievements since graduating from MCC?

One of my greatest achievements at MCC was the privilege to impact thousands of students who I helped in my years at MCC. Volunteering for various fundraising events for the MCC Foundation and Scholarship receptions as well as being selected to give a speech to the MCC Board of Directors. My most important achievement was to work for MCC and be a part of the place which gave me many opportunities resulting in my career in higher education.

What is your fondest memory of MCC?

I have many. The day I received my financial aid award from Alex Arauz (My Financial Aid Officer) so that I was able to attend college without worrying about payment was the happiest day of my life. I lost everything including my home during the recession, and MCC was my last straw. I am so grateful for that day because I started my journey that not only gave me an educational opportunity, but a career. My second fondest memory was getting an opportunity to work as a Scholarship Program Coordinator with Pamela Hedberg. I am the most grateful because it was then that my career truly took shape and I knew where I belonged and where I was heading.

What was your favorite place on campus, why?

My favorite place on campus was the open area in the middle of the campus; as a student, my friends and I studied on the lawn. As a student and student worker, I never had much time to really hang out on campus. I was either working or attending class.

Who was your favorite professor and why?

I have many favorite professors but the one who truly made an impression on me was Dr. Christine Wathen (Economics Professor). She was vivacious and willing to go above and beyond for her students. I had her for ECON 1 & 2 and Business Organization; she was knowledgeable and attentive to her students and gave us opportunity to explore the field of business and economics.

If you could offer a current MCC student advice, what would it be?

I would tell the current students that getting a degree from MCC is comparable to any university but you are saving a great deal of money. MCC offers small size classes where professors focus on getting to know their students and building a professional relationship. Attending a county college is a smart decision, because it will prepare you to attend the university of your choice. Finish your degree at MCC and then explore other options! MCC is affordable, flexible and convenient with a huge campus for everyone.

Why was attending MCC the right decision for you?

After surviving the recession where I lost everything, MCC was the light in the sky for me and I truly MEAN THIS! Today, I am earning my graduate degree because of MCC. So essentially, MCC was the MOST IMPORTANT catalyst in my life on many levels. Today, I have a great career with many future opportunities. I hope to work for MCC again and help future students. I want to give back to the institution that helped me when I did not have anything.
