Parents & Families
Your son or daughter is about to embark on an exciting but most likely challenging experience as they enter college. The services provided through Special Education in the Public School System are vastly different from those generally available at most Colleges and Universities. The public school system is required under the law to provide special education to ensure that each and every student meets with success. The college and university sector, however, is not required under the law to ensure success but is required to ensure access and that a student is not discriminated against based on having a disability. Most disability services professionals in higher education agree that the key to a student’s success is their attitude and their self-advocacy skills. The Disability Services Staff at Middlesex County College is committed to assisting students and easing the transition to College. There are many changes and transitions that you and your child will need to learn about and perhaps adjust to.
