Apply for Student Loans

Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan

Step 1: Go to www.fafsa.gov to fill out a FAFSA. For more information regarding how fill out a FAFSA, please go to “Your Financial Aid Application Starts Here”

Step 2: Log into https://studentloans.gov to complete Entrance Counseling.

Step 3: Complete Loan Agreement for a Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan (MPN)

Please note both the Entrance Counseling and MPN will ask you the “school information”. Please select “New Jersey” as the “School State” and “Middlesex County College” as the “School Name.”

Step 4: Log into your Financial Aid Self Service, and select “Request a New Loan”. For instructions to access your Financial Aid Self Service, please go to “Check your Financial Aid Status”

Please note the loan amount is based on enrollment, dependency status and year in college. The loan amount you requested may be divided into subsidized and unsubsidized loans. Direct PLUS Loan (Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students)

Step 1: Go to www.fafsa.gov to fill out a FAFSA. For more information regarding how fill out a FAFSA, please go to  “Your Financial Aid Application Starts Here”

Step 2: Log into https://studentloans.gov to complete the Plus Loan application.

Step 3: Log into your Financial Aid Self Service, and select “Request a New Loan”. For instructions to access your Financial Aid Self Service, please go to “Check your Financial Aid Status”

Step 4: Write in the Comments that the loan is for Plus Loan only.

Step 5: Your parent needs to fill out and submit Federal Direct PLUS Loan Request Form. Submit the signed form as an email attachment to faid@middlesexcc.edu , or submit the form in person to Enrollment Services in West Hall, Edison campus, or at the New Brunswick or Perth Amboy Center.

Exit Counseling

Federal regulations require students that no longer maintain at least half time enrollment and have borrowed student loan funds complete “Exit Counseling.” Half time enrollment is defined as at least six credits per semester. Exit Counseling provides a reminder to student loan borrowers of their rights and responsibilities. You may also check your loan history at any time by logging onto https://nslds.ed.gov . To complete the mandatory Exit Counseling, please follow the directions below.

  1. Go to https://studentloans.gov
  2. Select “Complete Exit Counseling”
  3. Select “Log In” and log in with your FSA ID
  4. Click the Start button
  5. Select Middlesex County College with the “Add a School” option on the right
  6. Complete the exit counseling and submit
