Matthew Check and Jin Ju, both MCC 2018 grads with degrees in Gaming and Animation, returned to Middlesex County College to share their experiences at the SIGGRAPH (Special Interest Group on Computer GRAPHics and Interactive Techniques) Conference in Vancouver with current students. Both Matt and Jin were selected to be student volunteers at the conference. They worked at various presentations and booths, met like-minded students from all over the world, and networked with professionals in the gaming, animation and computer graphics field. They were also able to attend the much-heralded Electronic Theater and were assigned a professional mentor. Matt was even able to meet and speak with William Reeves of Pixar Animation Studios fame, who encouraged Matt to send Pixar his portfolio reel, which he did. Both Jin and Matt are now completing four-year degrees in Animation at Bloomfield College.
Tiffany Lau also graduated from MCC in 2018 with a degree in Gaming and Animation. Several of her pieces of artwork were selected for the annual Faculty Submitted Student Work Exhibit at SIGGRAPH. No fewer than 60 pieces of student work from MCC were accepted for the exhibit, but Tiffany’s 3D character, “Captain Patches,” was honored as the chosen graphic for the conference flyer advertising the exhibit. Her work was picked from hundreds of submissions.
