Private foundations and organizations often provide scholarships to community college students transferring to a four-year college or university. The following scholarships can be used at the four-year school of your choice.

There are scholarship opportunities available for transfer students. Some require a special application while others are automatically triggered by the students GPA at the time of application. If your intended college is not show here, contact that college and ask if any scholarship opportunities are available. Remember, It costs nothing to ask and you have nothing to lose by asking – but everything to gain!
BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship. Varying number of full tuition Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships available: Renewable / 3.5 – 4.0 GPA & A.A. or A.S. degree and PTK membership required. Contact Kristen Cohen, VP of Enrollment Management at 973-748-9000 X392
CALDWELL COLLEGE Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship. There are a number of renewable, $4000 scholarships available to full time students and % per credit hour scholarships for Adult students taking courses part time. A minimum 3.5 GPA is required. These are offered to PTK members. Adult undergrads with an AA degree and a 2.75 GPA or higher are eligible for a 15% tuition scholarship. Contact Office of Admissions at 973-618-3000. Caldwell Colleges has announced that it will be the first private institution in New Jersey to participate in the NJ Stars II scholarship program. The Caldwell College Stars II scholarship will range from $8,000 to Full Tuition ! Contact the Admission Office at 973-618-3000 for full details.
CENTENARY COLLEGE Fifteen renewable $13,000 scholarships may be awarded to entering transfer students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 who are PTK members. Also there are 5 different transfer scholarships of between $6000 – $12,000 possible for entering transfer students depending upon GPA . Contact Admissions for more information 1-877-236-4723.
COLLEGE OF SAINT ELIZABETH Unlimited number of renewable scholarships depending upon GPA. Minimum 32 transfer credits and a 3.0 GPA required. Contact Michael Szarek, Director of Enrollment Management at 973-290-4112.
CLEVELAND INSTITUTE OF ART Awards of up to $10,000 annually available to transfer students. Deadline: May 1st. Visit website for more information or call the Admissions Office at 1-216-421-7418. Checklist for the scholarship includes: Completed Application, Statement of Purpose, Official College Transcripts, Two Letters of Recommendation, 12-20 Slides of Original Work, and a Person Interview is Recommended.
DREW UNIVERSITY Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship. There are an unlimited number of renewable, merit based scholarships available to New Jersey, community college, PTK members who attend full time. A student with a GPA of 3.5 or better may receive $6,000 – $14,000. PTK awards are automatic. In addition there are need-based grants for transfer students of $8,500 – $10,500. Merit and need based grants may be combined Part-time students or students with previous bachelor’s degrees are not eligible. MONMOUTH UNIVERSITY Varying number of $2,000 – $9,000 renewable academic scholarships to transfer students on academic merit. In addition, three (3) $1,500 PTK scholarships are awarded each Fall and Spring. Proof of PTK membership is required. Contact Undergraduate Admissions at 1-732-263-5873
MONTCLAIR STATE UNIVERSITY Montclair offers Biochemistry-Molecular Biology scholarships to transfer students pursuing this major. Contact the college for further information.
NEW JERSEY CITY UNIVERSITY NJCU offers Transfer Student Scholarships as well as Talent Scholarships, Endowed and Annual scholarships. The degree is the key: Presidential Scholarship (Full tuition + fees) AA/AS with a 3.8 GPA / Transfer University V ($5000) AA/AS with a 3.65 GPA / Transfer University IV ($4000) AA/AS with a 3.5 GPA / Transfer University III ($3000) AAS with a 3.5 GPA / Transfer University II ($2000) no degree but 48+ credits with a 3.5 GPA.
THE NEW SCHOOL The New School Bachelor’s Program offers several merit- and need-based scholarships for transfer students. In addition to the scholarships listed here, all students submitting the FAFSA will be considered for additional financial aid – including grants, loans and further scholarship opportunities. Academic Opportunity Grants, ranging from $2,500 to $5,000, are annual awards given on the basis of merit and financial need. LaGuardia Presidential Scholarships are $3,500scholarships awarded to transfer students who have earned at least 60 credits (selected students must enroll in at least 18 credits per academic year). Selection includes both merit and financial need considerations. Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships are$2,000 awards in recognition of academic achievement to PTK members with an earned associate’s degree transferring to The New School.
NEW YORK UNIVERSITY Steinhardt School of Education Scholarships valued from $8,000 – $20,000 are offered through the Community College Transfer Opportunity Program (CCTOP) to qualified MCC students wishing to enroll full time in one of the +16 majors offered through NYU’s Steinhardt School of Education. The student must be nominated by a MCC faculty member or administrator. Students who are nominated prior to filing their NYU admissions application will not have to pay the $65 application fee. The qualifying majors are: Applied Psychology; Communication Studies; Early Childhood Ed; Elementary Ed; Special Ed; Educational Theatre; Music; Nursing; Nutrition & Food Studies; Secondary Ed-> English, Foreign Lang., Math, Science, and Social Sciences; Social Work; Studio Art; Teaching Students with Speech & Language Disorders.
Nominees for the CCTOP scholarship must meet all of the following guidelines: (1) Have a total GPA of 3.0 or higher; (2) Have sophomore standing; (3) Be a US citizen or permanent resident; (4) Plan to enroll as a full time day student; (5) Intend to apply to the NYU Steinhardt School of Education. All applications & forms should be submitted to NYU by April 1 for Fall admission and by November 1 for Spring admission.

RIDER UNIVERSITY Transfer Scholarship – open to all transfer applicants. Minimum GPA of 3.5 = $7,500. per year / minimum GPA of 3.0 = $5,000. per year / minimum GPA of 2.75 = $2,500. per year. PTK Scholarship – open to PTK members = $7,500. All are renewable; all require a GPA of 2.5 be maintained. To be considered for any scholarship the applicant must be a US citizen or permanent resident, be seeking full time enrollment, have earned an associate degree prior to entry at Rider and have all applications and paperwork received by Rider Admissions by April 1st.
ROWAN UNIVERSITY NJ Community College – Transfer Trustee Scholarship. There are a total of 21 scholarships – at least one per county throughout the state, equal to one-half the annual tuition and renewable. Student must earn the associates degree from a NJ community college before Fall enrollment and must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 for consideration.
WIDENER UNIVERSITY Transfer students must have completed a minimum of 12 transferable credits and be full time to be eligible for a Widener Transfer Scholarship. The amounts od this scholarship vary according to the students GPA: 2.50…. $2,500. / 3.00…. $5,000. / 3.25…. $7,500. / 3.75 …. $10,000.
WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY Each year 100 new deserving students enrolling at William Paterson will receive a Presidential Scholarship and become a part of their newest Honors program. These scholarships, awarded to 50 entering freshman and 50 transfer students, are for $3000 and are renewable each year to full-time students who maintain a 3.0 GPA. Transfer awards target A.A. and A.S. degree holders who have a minimum 3.5 GPA and display service or involvement to the college or community. PTK members will automatically receive the award. Two scholarships are reserved for each community college but students must meet eligibility and deadline requirements.
